SANCTIONED POINT SHOWS
1. There will be sanctioned point shows in all areas of the state. These shows must be open junior shows (open to any junior exhibitor in the state) that will include steer and commercial heifer shows.
2. MCCA will support the show rules set forth by the sanctioned show. Ex: If responsible host of show wants to provide haired steer show then there is not a requirement for the steer to be slick.
3. Each sanctioned show will check tags at weigh in and list the correct MCCA ear tag number of each animal on the show program. This is necessary in order to determine the MCCA placing to be entered into the computer program.
4. Each sanctioned show agrees to have the judge place at least the top five steers and commercial heifers in each class. It is preferred that the judge place all entries in every class.
5. Show management agrees to check the MCCA ear tag in the ring against the show program to insure that points are awarded on the correct animal.
6. Each sanctioned show agrees to select a MCCA champion and MCCA reserve champion in each show (steer and commercial heifer). The show is not required to give an award, but only to select the MCCA champions for points.
7. At the Mississippi State Fair, the Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion MCCA Prospect and Progress Steers will compete for the overall Grand MCCA Steer and Reserve Grand MCCA Steer. These will receive 10 extra points for Grand and 5 extra points for Reserve Grand.
8. Only the top five shows of the exhibitors will count toward end of the year awards. You will receive double points at the MCCA Holiday Classic and the Dixie National Junior Round-Up.
9. Within 30 days following the show, the show secretary will submit to the MCCAJSC records clerk a completed copy of the show programs which include class placing for each exhibitor. These show programs must be signed by the judge.
STEER AND COMMERCIAL HEIFER POINTS SYSTEM
1. Points are awarded on the placing of each steer and commercial heifer in each of their classes at sanctioned point shows.
2. All cattle must have a MCCA ear tag in the ear while in the ring at the sanctioned show to be eligible for points to count toward their point total.
3. Points will be awarded separately in the steer and commercial heifer divisions and year end awards will be made based upon total points for each.
4. The top five selected shows will count toward points for year- end awards. State Fair and Dixie National are included into the five point shows. (A member can show any number of steers and commercial heifers in any number of shows, but only points from the top five previously listed sanctioned shows on each individual animal will generate points toward year end awards.)
5. The judge will place (at least) the top five animals in each class. However, it is requested that the judge place all cattle in each class whenever possible. Points will be based on the total number of animals in the class. For example: If there are ten steers in a class the MCCA steers will be awarded 10-1 points based on their placing in the class. If the judge only placed 5 head in the class, those MCCA tagged cattle that placed in the top 5 will be the only ones to get points. Points will be based on the actual placing of the MCCA animal in class.
6. Points will be awarded at each of the sanctioned shows for MCCA tagged champions. Breed Division (English, Brahman, and European) Champion will earn 10 points and Reserve Champion will earn 5 points. Grand Champion will earn 10 points and Reserve Grand Champion 5 points. At the Mississippi State Fair and Dixie National Junior Round Up the breed division (English, Brahman, and European) Champion and Reserve Champions will receive 10 and 5 points respectively. The overall Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion MCCA tagged winners will also receive an additional 20 points and 10 points respectively.

Substitution rule will be followed in the MS State Fair Premium Book and the Dixie National Junior Round Up Premium Book. Must complete a show substitution form from the livestock office.
8. End of year points will be totaled in each show division (steer and commercial heifer) based on the five show point totals for each animal. Awards will be given to the top ten steers and commercial heifers based on their placing totals for the year. Ten market steers will be honored, and ten commercial heifers will be honored at year end.
